Back to School
Today the halls of North Salem High are empty of students. The furniture is back in the rooms and the (new) linoleum tiles are freshly waxed and polished. That will all change on Tuesday, September 3 as this year's freshmen will start swarming the corridors on their orientation day. Lockers will be decorated with calendars, mirrors, and photos. Lifelong friendships will begin. The next day, Wednesday, all the rest of the students will be back and classes for the school year 2013-14 will begin. The cycle repeats itself, though this year a new graduation requirement is in place in addition to the previous language arts ones. Seniors now must also pass State tests in mathematics in order to receive their diplomas.
Fall sports have already begun! On Friday, Sept. 30, the Vikings were away at Newberg for a non-conference game.

VIKING FALL SPORT SCHEDULES
Senior citizens (over 65) are reminded that you can get a Golden Age Pass for free by going in to the North High office. The pass will give you admission to all Salem-Keizer sporting events other than those sponsored by OSAA (like playoff games). (You can even go to games of the dreaded South High Saxons!)
This year Homecoming will be Friday, Sept. 27. The week leading up to Homecoming will feature the usual "Spirit Days" dress up days and either hall or door decorations following this year's theme (TBA). The football game this year will be against cross-town rival McKay HS. Activities on the big day will include a pep assembly presenting the Homecoming Court as well as this year's class of inductees into the North High Hall of Fame. In addition, a group of students and staff from North's Japanese sister high school will be in attendance. A complete schedule of Homecoming will be included in the September edition of this newsletter.
