Paul graduated from Lincoln High School in Portland, and entered the Navy. He attended Linfield College, and graduated in 1952. After teaching in Mohawk and Canyonville in the Eugene area, he began his teaching and coaching career at North Salem High School in 1958, where he taught History and Health. He also coached wrestling and track. He was very well respected by students in the classroom and on the field, and he brought a competitiveness and love of learning to both. Unfortunately, his career was cut short in 1973 by a heart attack. He had just become the athletic director at North Salem, and again had become respected in this endeavor. The staff and community at North Salem felt it an honor to name the Viking gymnasium “Paul Halsor Gym”, and this has immortalized him as a Viking forever.
