J. Warren Carkin (2012 Distinguished Lifetime Award)

A wounded veteran of World War II, Warren Carkin returned to a career in architecture.  Among his many designs were the master plan for Chemeketa Community College, McKay High School, the Post office on 25th St., and several remodelings in the State Capitol Building.  He was a founder and first president of Leadership Salem, president of Salem Economic Development Corporation, and president of the Salem Downtown Association. For his many volunteer services to the community, he was named Salem’s First Citizen in 1980.
