The Late Grant Harter (Class of 1959) was a 6’10” Center who led the Viking basketball team to three straight State Tournament appearances and was selected to the All-State squad his senior year. He was recruited to Oregon State by Coach Amory “Slats” Gill, a fellow Viking Hall of Famer, and played for the Beavers for four years. Their 1962-63 team, led by Mell Counts and future Heisman Trophy winner Terry Baker, made it to the NCAA Final Four, a feat not repeated since. The team has since been inducted into OSU’s Sports Hall of Fame, as well as the State of oregon Sports Hall of Fame.
Grant was nominated by his friend, classmate, and teammate Homer Wood.
