Ava Helen Miller Pauling (2013 Distinguished Lifetime Award)

Wife of two-time Nobel Laureate Linus Pauling, Ava Pauling was a lifelong advocate for social justice, human rights, and peace.  She opposed the incarceration of Japanese-Americans during WWII, fought for women’s rights, and her opposition to nuclear weapons was highly influential in the Partial Test Ban Treaty of 1963, for which he husband received the Nobel Peace Prize.
