Amory “Slats” Gill (2006 Distinguished Lifetime Award)

“Slats” gill was an active Salem High School student, lettering in football, basketball, and baseball, and participated in Hi-Y, Drama Club, and the Letter Club. With his brother Luke, the Gills led Salem High School to its first State championship in basketball. Slats was twice an all-starter. At Oregon Agricultural College (now Oregon State University), Gill was a four-year star in both basketball and baseball. He was later named head basketball coach for the Beavers, winning numerous conference championships and producing several All-Americans. He was named to the National Basketball Hall of Fame, and Oregon State’s Gill Coliseum is named in his honor.
